On March 14, 1896 the Sutro Baths in San Francisco were opened. Sutro baths were in an enormous glass structure providing seven pools, which were filled with heated sea water from the Pacific Ocean. The builder Adolph Sutro was estimated to own 1/12 of the acreage of the city of San Francisco and had a trolley car line built to reach the baths
