On April 19, 1897 the Boston Marathon was run for the first time, inspired by the marathon in the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896. John McDermott won the 24.5 mile race in a time of 2:55:10. Fifteen runners started the race, but only 10 made it to the Finish Line. Moving can feel like a Marathon
